10th-annual Upper C Fall Classic Fly-Fishing tournament set for Sept. 28-29
The event is the primary fundraiser for the Eagle Valley Trout Unlimited chapter
Our local rivers sustain the need for the basics of water and for connecting with the great outdoors.
Trout Unlimited is about fishing. It is also about conservation and community. Trout Unlimited works to bring together diverse interests to care for and recover rivers and streams. Trout Unlimited believes the best conservation work is done with the collaboration of landowners, government agencies, nonprofits and stakeholders.
The Eagle Valley chapter is one of 387 national and 24 statewide Trout Unlimited chapters. Led by president, Nick Noesen and vice president, Greg Ciluzzi, the local chapter is involved in a range of activities from promoting local fly-fishing events to updating local conditions and volunteerism.
“Eagle Valley Trout Unlimited’s mission is protect, preserve and restore Eagle County cold water fisheries and their watersheds,” Noesen said. “The chapter is active with youth education, conservation, stream health, signage and river education.”
The chapter’s primary fundraiser is the 10th annual Upper C Fall Fly-Fishing Tournament, set for Sept. 28-29. Local guides donate their boats and time to raise funds. There are pro and amateur divisions, with one guide and two anglers per team in both.

The event kicks off on Sept. 28 with the float dinner river section draw party, which includes a meal, drinks, swag bag and silent auction at Eagle River Brewing. Anglers will fish from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 29; lunch and drinks included. Points will be awarded for the top-3 largest fish and total number of fish for each angler.  There are cash prizes for the top team in each division and fly-gear awards for the top-3 finishers in each division. The tournament will be capped off with an awards party at Vin48 including apps, drinks, awards and the day’s fishing stories.
Noesen said of the tourney, “The Upper C Fall Classic is a one-of-kind tournament with a chance to claim Eagle County fly-fishing bragging rights. Showcasing the Upper Colorado River, anglers are competing in a friendly environment knowing the dollars raised benefit the fishery.”
A limited number of boats remain. Cost of entry into either the pro or amateur divisions is $1,400 per boat. Individual tickets for the float dinner and awards party are available for $50 each. Visit for event details and registration or call Greg Ciluzzi at 970-401-4766.
