New Year’s Eve fireworks in Vail, Beaver Creek and Gypsum

Get ready to ring in the new year with a bang as fireworks will erupt over Vail Mountain on New Year’s Eve at the annual torchlight parade and fireworks display. This annual tradition gathers the instructors from the Vail ߣÏÈÉú and Snowboard School and they carry flares down the hill in a serpentine formation. If you want to get in front of all the action, head to Golden Peak before the torchlight parade begins at 6:15 p.m.

Shortly after, the fireworks will go off and it’s such a treat to be right underneath the colorful display as it lights up the sky and reflects off the snow. The free, in-town shuttle bus takes you right to the Golden Peak bus stop.

If you can’t get to Golden Peak, the fireworks display can be seen across the valley floor from just east of Golden Peak and the Ford Park and Betty Ford Alpine Gardens area all the way to Lionshead, so if you are staying at The Hythe or the Ritz Carlton Club, you should be able to see it outside of the hotels. Across Interstate 70, you should be able to view it from Potato Patch Drive, Red Sandstone Road and the surrounding areas. For more details and to look at the estimated fireworks viewing area map, go to .

Beaver Creek offers a full evening of fun on Dec. 31 with two fireworks shows, roaming entertainment and a chance for you to be a part of the festivities. Level 5 skiers and snowboarders are invited to ski or ride in the ski-down parade at 6 p.m. Register for the ski-down parade at the Group Lessons Center from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and then load the Haymeadow Gondola at 5:30 p.m. From there the group will come down the mountain in a serpentine motion with glow stick lights. This is very similar to anyone who has participated in Thursday Night Lights. After the ski-down parade, lift your eyes to the skies for a fireworks display.

Another way to enjoy the fireworks around the valley is to hike up via snowshoes, alpine touring gear or micro spikes on your boots. Burn off some of those holiday calories and take to the trails on Vail or Beaver Creek Mountain or pick a hiking trail like the North Trail in Vail or the trails around Wildridge for a distant vantage point without the crowds. Please pay attention to any seasonal trail closures and only hike on open trails.
