Prep notebook: Queens of the Mountain wrestling tournament results and photos

Nine girls teams competed at the Queens of the Mountain wrestling tournament on Saturday at Battle Mountain High School. West Grand came away with the team title.

Battle Mountain placed third out of nine teams at its Queens of the Mountain home wrestling tournament on Saturday in Edwards. The Huskies were led by Ayla Hampton, who won the 135-pound division after pinning Josslyn Etler of West Grand in the finals. West Grand tallied 114 points to capture the team title.

The Battle Mountain boys and girls wrestling teams will be at the Glenwood Springs Triangular on Thursday.

Eagle Valley competed against 40 other squads at the Tiara Challenge last Friday. Luvlyn Ward placed eighth at 105 pounds while Gabby Littlepage and Julia Borejszo were fifth and third at 110 and 135 pounds, respectively.

Basketball notes

  • Vail Christian defeated West Grand 63-28 on Friday to improve to 4-4 on the season and 1-1 in league play. The Saints host Soroco on Saturday at 3 p.m.
  • Vail Mountain School defeated Meeker 61-54 on Tuesday night in Vail to improve to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the 2A/1A Western Slope. The Gore Rangers will take their two-game winning streak to Rangely on Friday night.
